Science: Good, Bad, and Bogus

Science: Good, Bad, and Bogus is an 18-point course given in the first half year. All students must attend the lecture, 3.10 p.m. till 4.50 p.m., every Wednesday in Engineering lecture theatre E9. In addition, students attend a weekly fifty-minute tutorial, held at various times (sign up sheets in the Philosophy Department, 6th floor, History Building). There will be one ninety-minute test (counting for 25% of the final mark). The test will be on Wednesday, April 2nd.
There is a final examination of three hours (counting 50% of the final mark). The date and time for the final exam is given in the student handbook. In addition to the final examination, there will be an essay of approximately 2000 words on an assigned topic (counting 25% of the final mark). This essay is to be handed in (in the Philosophy Department) on Monday, June 9th.
Text for the course is How to Think About Weird Things: Critical Thinking For a New Age, available in the bookshop. The new fifth edition of this book is preferred, but the fourth edition is acceptable.
